The correct steps for using mouthwash include rinsing with water, diluting the mouthwash, rinsing with the mouthwash, and spitting the mouthwash out.

1. Rinse with water: Before using mouthwash, it is recommended to rinse with water to remove food particles from the mouth and ensure adequate contact between the mouthwash and the gums.

2. Dilute mouthwash: Some mouthwashes require dilution before use. This can be done under the guidance of a doctor or according to the dilution ratio specified in the instructions.

3. Rinse with mouthwash: When using mouthwash, hold the mouthwash in your mouth, puff your cheeks, and rinse repeatedly throughout your mouth. Avoid leaving the mouthwash in your mouth for extended periods to avoid damaging your teeth.

4. Spit out the mouthwash: Spit out the mouthwash. You do not need to rinse with water to avoid washing away its active ingredients.

Note: While properly used, mouthwash can remove food particles, it cannot replace brushing. Furthermore, long-term use of medicated mouthwashes is not recommended, as they may disrupt the balance of oral bacteria.
